Oncor is a Dallas-based electrical utility company that serves customers throughout northern Texas. The company was founded in 2001 and maintained approximately 134,000 miles of electrical distribution lines as of 2018. Oncor is the largest transmission company within the service area of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.

Oncor provides electrical service to 120 counties and 410 communities in Texas. These communities include Dallas, Fort Worth, Midland, and Round Rock. Oncor serves residential, commercial, and industrial customers within its service area. The company offers electricity sourced from conventional coal plants as well as wind and solar power.

Oncor electric choice in Texas

Deregulation of Texas’s energy markets allows consumers like you to choose retail energy providers. Customers in the Oncor service area work with retailers to manage accounts and billing for electrical service provided by the utility. The 2002 deregulation law opened the floodgates to dozens of energy retailers to compete for new accounts.

Customers do not need to spend hours in online searches to find quotes. Oncor customer service

Customers experiencing non-outage service issues are able to call Oncor at 1-888-313-6862 Monday through Friday. This number can be used to ask questions about monthly energy usage, billing questions, or other inquiries.

Customers can also call Oncor at this number to report electricity tampering. Oncor does not address billing, connection, or disconnection questions, which are handled by retail energy providers.

Oncor power outage support

Oncor power outage information is available from at the Oncor website located here. Customers are encouraged to call Oncor at 1-888-313-4747 seven days a week to report outages.

Oncor maintains an outage reporting tool that asks a customer for their phone number and ZIP code as part of outage reporting. This tool also features a tracker to determine the status of outage repairs.

Oncor’s online outage resource provides additional information for customers preparing for or dealing with outages. The Outage Map layers a weather radar, service areas, and notes about power restoration efforts into a single visual tool. Customers using the map can see the number of outages in an area as well as estimated restoration times.

Oncor power outage information is also available by text message for customers who may not be able to access online information. The company’s My Oncor Alerts allow a user to receive power outage notices and status updates on their phone. The entire registration process can be completed online or using a quick setup text to Oncor.

This site is AMAZING! Truly. They do the heavy lifting for you. They compare everything and show you all of the details. We used the calculator by entering our usage and received a great set of options. We selected one and then all we had to do was fill out a very short set of questions and we had a new account with a new provider in seconds. Best part is, I didn't even have to contact my old provider and cancel on them. It was all done through the new provider. This was too easy. I will say at first I was a little concerned about entering my social security number when I was setting up the account for a soft background check so that the new provider can determine if we need to do a deposit or not. This had me a little on edge but I did my research and everything was very secured. This soft background check doesn't impact your credit either. So rest assured, this is the best way to set up or switch providers. Bar none. Will be using this service again for sure and will tell all my friends about it too.

I've used the same electric provider for many years, and I simply needed to change it up. Prices were just getting too high! I utilized Compare Power to find a new rate, and it was ridiculously easy to find a great rate, and really quickly. Pretty sweet website. Made it easy to find and compare providers in my area. Even lets you calculate variable usage on bills so you really know what you're spending with your usage with the plans available. Also shows any of those potential awful hidden fees providers sneak in you don't normally get to find out about until you get your first bill. Definitely will recommend to friends & family.

I used compare power to figure out what was the best electricity plans based on my needs. The site made it super easy to view all the prices that are normally buried in the electric facts label (EFL); it saved so much time! Not only that but I got a really nice promotional rate through compare power that I otherwise wouldn’t have found if I searched the providers individually. Came upon this website when it was time to decide on a renewal with my current power plan. They were very informative and listed plans with providers I didn't know were available. My comparisons also showed the percentage of green energy they generated which also helped me feel a bit better that I was choosing plan from a provider had all a portion of green energy production. THIS IS WHAT all websites need to be like. It took me about 5 min to find the best possible electricity power company, and So far, they are worth the trip to this website! Excellent layout and design, and easy to navigate. I would recommend this site to anybody who is like me that moved on from Colorado to Texas. This site is a must for anyone setting up an electricity service. It allows you to choose based on many different factors, including custom kWh amounts. I suggest playing around with the different providers and look at the spreads between what you think will be your home's average. Then look at the cost for 500, 1000, etc and find the lowest cost average for your specific situation.

I typically shop electric companies once a year or every other year to have the best rate for my home. I’ve used powertochoose in the past, however compare power exceeded all expectations. It was easier to compare the actual rates and showed all the breakdowns to allow you to make a better informed decision. My home is typical 3000kw a month or more so it also allowed me to see rates based on my specific usage other that prompting me to the lowest rate that wasn’t necessarily the lowest when you add in the greater than 2000 per month added charges. Once my choice was made, switching was very easy and done within minutes and a couple clicks. I’ll definitely be back.

Compare power has literally saved me hundreds of dollars on my electric service. They’re able to find me the best company with the best rates and zero dollar deposits!! Also, you’ll be notified when your current contracts is about to expire and given the chance to either renew (which most of the time rates increase upon renewal) or find a different company with a better rate. I’ll definitely use this service for as long as it’s available.

This site is fantastic for seeing exact details of every plan available to you. Gives you several options for looking for a provider including Green Energy and Fixed Rate. It then lets you see a list of plans and shows you exactly how much it would be for the month by allowing you to input kWh which in turn helps you compare your current bill to a new potential provider. Then, when you're ready to switch you just pick a plan and input the start date for service and you're off! Extremely helpful tool!

Very user friendly format. Was able to clearly compare packages to my current usage and pick the one that best suited my needs. Once the decision was made, the process of switching was as simple as completing the prompts. The new provider does the rest. From decision to confirmation from the new provider that the switch took maybe 45 minutes. I received confirmation from my old provider perhaps an hour later. Highly recommended!

Excellent page; Especially the compare by usage "PER Month". So if you had a similar apartment square footage, and have a history of you can TRULY compare prices; there are a set number of providers but they make it confusing on purpose. This makes it easy. Especially when 'PROMOTIONS" might not really be a deal. Likewise 24-32 month contracts are not a deal when it is illegal at the moment to charge a cancellation fee as a utility.

This website was so easy to use! I enjoyed having the ability to put my personal usage into the calendar so that I could get accurate and personalized prices. They perform exceptionally well. I woke up this am and I flipped the light switch and it shined so brightly light the brightest star. I then plugged in my blender and because of compare power, I had to most satisfying banana, strawberry, vanilla ice cream, butterscotch and milk shake that I’ve ever had. Thank you compare power.
