Electricity Price Trends in Arlington
Electricity in Arlington, Texas, is deregulated. As a consumer of energy, have a choice when it comes to choosing a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you flexibility and control over your energy bills.
Deregulation of the electricity supply in Texas de-monopolized the energy market for the majority of the state, the city of Arlington included, which in turn introduced competition into the energy market.
As a result, many excellent retail electricity providers compete for your business in Arlington by offering low-rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your energy bill.
As many as 60-100 Retail Electricity Providers compete for your business in Arlington and there are hundreds of plans.
Average Electricity Rates in Arlington, Texas
This chart is compiled using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA.GOV).
The average price for electricity in Texas in 2017 was 11.4 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
There are fixed-rate plans for Arlington residents on ComparePower with rates as low as $0.10.
How to find the best energy plan in Arlington
#1 rule: Know Your Usage!
Knowing how much energy you will use month-by-month is the best way to shop for power in Arlington. Why does this matter?
The “price per kWh” you see energy companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).
Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly bill is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you use each month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised.
Fortunately, there’s a better way to shop for energy.
Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing plans by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate.
Even better, if you have 12 months of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the right energy plan for your home.
ComparePower does all this math for you in an instant. What takes hours inside a spreadsheet is now done in seconds.
We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of plans and navigate you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your home’s usage.
We clarify fine print, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.
We then let you sign-up with your chosen electricity company without ever leaving our website.
The take away here is you must understand your expected or historical usage before choosing the right energy plan for your home.
If you don’t know your usage, estimate
If you are unable to acquire 12-months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
While not as optimal as having all previous 12-months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an electricity provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.
Use ComparePower to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.
Moving to Arlington: Setting up Electricity
Did you know Arlington is known as the entertainment capital of Texas?
Arlington hosts the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park and the Dallas Cowboys at the AT&T Stadium.
Founded in 1876, Arlington is part of the DFW metroplex, sitting in between downtown Dallas and Fort Worth.
With a 2017 population of 379,577 people and a total area of 99.0 square miles, Arlington boasts hot summers and mild winters.
The city is home to the University of Texas at Arlington, a significant research institution offering graduate degrees and undergraduate degrees.
You can spend a weekend at Six Flags over Texas, a hot summer day at Hurricane Harbor, or take the family to River Legacy Park and explore the area’s beautiful outdoor hiking and biking trails at the 1,300-acre park on the Trinity River.
Important: If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Arlington, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12-months of energy usage for your new home.
Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12-months of usage.
This information is readily found in recent billing statements.
It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12-months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.
ComparePower will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.
Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize our “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and we’ll help you evaluate your home’s usage.
Sign-up for a plan instantly through ComparePower. We will remind you when its time to come back to switch and save at the end of plan term you decide on.
Switching electricity companies in Arlington
Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower price every year when your contract is about to expire.
Your existing electricity company will typically raise your electricity rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly higher than the plan you signed up.
Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing electricity providers.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you including canceling service with your previous provider.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Arlington is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch electricity providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can choose any date within 14 days early of your contract expiration without an “early termination penalty.” That’s Texas Law.
If you’re still under contract, check how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.
If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.
If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly best rate.
You will want to gather your historical usage for the past 12 months to determine the best plan with the lowest rate for your household.

After you’ve placed your order, you will receive an email with instructions as well as contact information for your new energy company.
Important: You must send your waiver information by email, phone, fax or mail to your new energy company (not to ComparePower).
As soon as your energy company receives your documentation, they will let you know that they’ve sent a request for your energy service to begin.
Remember, your energy company will not start your electric service until you satisfy any deposit requirement (you pay or receive a waiver).
If you have any questions on deposit waivers, you can contact us. One of our team members will get back to you as soon as possible.
