Real Simple Energy

You can pay $9 a month, or $108 per year, for Real Simple Energy to choose an electricity plan for you.

Or you could save that money and get the right plan in as little as 10 minutes with ComparePower.

Here’s how to get the right plan and save $108 in convenience fees👇

Pretty smooth! I have to say it was a lot easier than I expected.

How does Real Simple Energy work?

Real Simple Energy will shop for electricity plans based on your most recent electricity bills.

Additionally, the company will purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) so your home’s electricity is offset by green energy.

Is Real Simple Energy worth it?

Real simple energy can let you budget the same amount for electricity every month with a fixed-bill option.

Consider Real Simple Energy if you honestly don’t have 10 minutes each year to compare rates and sign up online.

But choosing the right electricity plan for your home is easier than you think.

Compare prices with your usage on ComparePower before paying for the convenience of shopping services.

Pros

  • Real Simple Energy can find an energy plan for your home for a fee.
  • Real Simple Energy can pay your electricity bill for you if you forget to pay it on time and don’t like using autopay.
  • You can cancel your Real Simple Energy subscription at any time during your contract.

Cons

  • You pay $108 a year for something you can do on your own.
  • You must sign over power of attorney for your energy contracts, meaning Real Simple Energy can sign electricity contracts in your name and make changes to your account at their discretion.
  • They can change the terms of service at any time, though this is standard with most energy providers in Texas.

Using Real Simple Energy

As part of the registration process, you’ll be asked a few simple questions about your home and electricity usage.

For information on your electricity usage, Real Simple Energy offers two options. The first option is to enter both your summer and winter usage and bill amounts.

Second, you can list the size and number of thermostats in your home, as well as how many people live there.

Based on your answers, Real Simple Energy calculates how much electricity you’ll use each month.

Then, Real Simple Energy gives you three options. You can choose from a 12-month fixed-bill contract or a six or 12-month fixed-rate contract.

Real Simple Energy requires that you sign a limited power of attorney regardless of which option you choose. By doing so, they can manage your electricity account throughout the term of your contract.

Real Simple Energy will pay your electric bill for you once you’ve set up your energy plan.

Without interrupting your service, Real Simple Energy finds you a new plan at the end of your contract.

If you wish to cancel your Real Simple Energy subscription, you can do so at any time.

What you get with Real Simple Energy

Using your electricity usage, Real Simple Energy finds energy plans for your home. A few options will be presented along with estimated savings.

There is no guarantee that Real Simple Energy will lower your electricity bills.

There are two types of plans available during the signup process. Plan options include 6-month and 12-month fixed rates.

The fixed-bill option sets it apart from other concierge-like shopping services. Fixed-bill plans give you a set monthly electricity bill throughout your contract.

Based on your answers to Real Simple Energy’s onboarding questions, you’ll be quoted a bill amount.

Your fixed-bill amount is then charged each month to your payment method by Real Simple Energy.

If you use less electricity than expected during your contract, Real Simple Energy will give you cash back.

Pulse Power Free Energy Nights

Pulse Power Free Energy Nights offers free electricity every night to help you save money.

If you’re reading this, you probably heard or saw an ad from Pulse Power promoting its latest plan and are wondering if this plan is right for your home.

We did a deep dive into the details and have some tips to help you make an informed energy decision for your household.

Is Pulse Power Free Energy Nights right for me?

We caution our readers against “free-time” electricity plans because they usually cost more throughout the year than standard fixed-rate plans.

But with electricity prices on the rise this summer, Pulse Power Free Energy Nights might save you some money if you can take advantage of the free time.

If you find yourself using more electricity at night than during the day, this plan is designed to help you cut down on your electricity costs.

Important: Pulse Power includes the free night usage discount in the advertised rate for this plan. You will NOT see an additional discount on your electricity usage and MUST shift at least 40% of your usage to the night to get the advertised rate.

If you aren’t able to shift your usage to the night, Pulse Power Free Energy Nights could end up costing you significantly more throughout the year.

Free electricity could be a game changer for you, but you need to shop with your home’s actual electricity usage to make sure you pick the right plan for your home.

Before buying into the advertising hype, input your electricity usage right here on ComparePower and we’ll show you a detailed pricing breakdown for every plan.

Compare Pulse Power Free Energy Nights pricing with fixed-rate plans so you know which plan will help you to save the most on electricity throughout the year.

The #1 most important thing to know is your home's energy usage.

This 2-minute video explains why shopping with your usage is so important👇

Quickly determine if Pulse Power Free Energy Nights is right for your home with your kilowatt-hour usage👇🏽

Note: The easiest way to get 12 months of usage history is to log into your provider dashboard. You can also create an account with Smart Meter Texas, where you can get usage readings for your home in 15-minute intervals.

What is Pulse Power Free Energy Nights?

Pulse Power Free Energy Nights is also known as a “time-of-use” plan. With time-of-use plans, you get a discount, or even free electricity, during certain times of the day or year.

These discounts can stack up to actual savings, but only if you can shift your usage to the times when you are getting a discount.

With Free Energy Nights, Pulse Power offers free electricity during the night. You can use as much electricity as you want, without worrying about a high electric bill at the end of the month.

Do some laundry, cook dinner, and binge watch shows all you want after 8 pm.

How does Pulse Power Free Energy Nights work?

Pulse Power Free Energy Nights is a time-of-use plan, meaning you get discounted electricity during certain times throughout the year.

It was created to give you free electricity during the night to keep your electricity bills in control throughout the year.

Night discount

From 8 pm until 5:59 am, Pulse Power discounts your electricity.

Important: This discount only applies to the energy charge on your bill.

The other part of your bill, including Transmission and Distribution (TDU) delivery charges, are not discounted with the plan.

How much does Pulse Power Free Energy Nights cost?

At the time of writing, Pulse Power advertised Free Energy Nights 36 at 15.6 cents per kWh at 1000 kWh monthly usage in the Oncor service area, which includes the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

The 24- and 12-month contracts for Free Energy Nights are more expensive at 17.4 and 20.9 cents per kWh at 1000 kWh monthly usage.

Important: Pulse Power includes the discounts in the advertised rate for the Oncor area. You will NOT see an additional discount on your electricity usage.

No one uses 1000 kWh every month, and your usage will vary, which will affect the rate that you pay.

If you are considering signing up for Pulse Power Free Energy Nights, make sure you shop with your home’s actual usage to see if you will benefit from the discount.

Average Texan

Are you similar to the average Texan? According to eia.gov, the average Texan paid 12.8 cents per kWh for electricity in 2021.

With average usage of 1,132 kWh per month, the average Texas electricity bill would be right around $144.90 each month.

With the weather in Texas swinging each season, your usage and electricity bill can change as quickly as the weather.

Remember that these average numbers are taken from statewide data and that your usage could be drastically different based on the size and age of your home, your appliances, and your electricity usage habits.

Free Energy Nights

Compared to the Texas average from last year, Pulse Power Free Energy Nights 36 is more expensive at 15.6 cents per kWh at 1000 kWh usage.

At 1,132 kWh usage, you would be looking at an electricity bill for approximately $176.51 on the Free Energy Nights plan.

That’s almost 22% more than the average Texan paid on electricity bills last year.

Granted, that $176.51 bill assumes that you shift at least 40% of your monthly electricity usage to the night.

Your electricity bill could be significantly more expensive than the Texas average if you signed up for Pulse Power Free Energy Nights, especially if your usage doesn’t match the free time discounts.

Other fees

Alongside your energy charge, you’ll find a TDU delivery charge on your bill.

The TDU charge depends on which company services the area that you live in. The TDU charge for Oncor, covering the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, is currently 3.89 cents per kWh. Oncor also collects a base charge of $3.42 each month.

Pulse Power Free Energy Nights also has an early termination fee of $125 if you must end the plan before your contract expires.

Before signing up, make sure you shop with your home’s unique usage profile to avoid high bills and the need to end your contract early.

Digging into the Terms of Service, Pulse Power lists additional fees for late payments, disconnections, reconnections, out of cycle meter reads, meter tests, returned checks, and insufficient funds available for paying your bills.

If you are concerned about any of these fees, you might consider a different electricity plan.

Are you getting free electricity?

You might wonder if there is any catch for getting free electricity at night with Pulse Power Free Energy Nights.

While Pulse Power does discount your energy charge to zero during the nights, unfortunately, you won’t be getting electricity for free.

TDU charges from Oncor are currently 3.89 cents per kWh, so you’ll see a charge for electricity on your bill. Oncor also charges $3.42 each month regardless of the electricity you use.

Regardless of Pulse Power’s discount, your TDU will charge you for electricity.

Former Save On Energy CEO and Founder brings his extensive market expertise to ComparePower as Chief Operating Officer.

DALLAS (Jan. 18, 2022) – Dallas-based ComparePower, the highest consumer-rated online marketplace in retail energy, today announced the hiring of Brent Moore as Chief Operating Officer – a decision that will further solidify its mission to help Texas consumers find their best electricity plan.

ComparePower Brent Moore and Brad Gregory Team Up

Moore, the former President of Just Energy’s North American retail business, is an industry veteran who, in 2003, founded Save On Energy, one of the original online energy comparison marketplaces. Moore created Save On Energy’s business model and developed its brand in the newly deregulated retail energy industry. After building the company from conception, he sold it to a leading global media company in 2012.

Moore knew he wanted to get back into the business and decided to meet with his old friend, ComparePower Founder and CEO Brad Gregory, to assess changes in the competitive landscape. After their first meeting, they found they shared a mutual passion for disruption and a similar vision for where they knew the Texas energy marketplace needed to go. It was undeniable that Texans would benefit greatly by their joining forces.

We have a lot of mutual respect for each other and know that in working together we can have the best energy plan selection tool on the market – our more than 47,000 positive reviews speak for themselves. This partnership signals our unrelenting commitment to investing in Texas energy consumer centricity.

Brad Gregory – CEO of ComparePower

Moore said their mission is to make life better for Texas consumers by helping simplify energy shopping and making the overall experience of selecting a plan less stressful.

That was always the goal and Brad really delivered on what my original vision was. Together, we are looking ahead to what is coming in 2022 and beyond. We’re aggressively investing in multiple growth areas and have significant expansion plans to reach even more Texans.

Brent Moore – COO of ComparePower

Their vision for ComparePower is to offer consumers a platform for navigating the many energy rate options and enrolling in the best plan for their unique situation. They were both appalled with “the game” some energy providers play in signing up customers for overpriced plans and have created a place for consumers to shop on their own terms, with no hassles and no pressure.

We are resetting the rules of the marketplace to make it more transparent than it has ever been. We are simplifying the process. We’re making it as quick and easy as possible for consumers to make the right decision in choosing their energy plan, so they can get back to their busy day.

Brad Gregory – CEO of ComparePower

Moore said he’s confident in ComparePower’s proven model and is encouraged by how much growth the company is seeing.

We’re really helping people. We’re ready to accelerate our reach plans and we’re hiring the best talent in our industry. We are going to make this tool available to a much larger residential and commercial audience.

Brent Moore – COO of ComparePower

Every Texan deserves to be happy with their electricity rate choice and we’re simplifying the process. Brent has a mix of experience and skill that is uniquely suited to accelerating our plans to help all consumers. He and I have the same vision and we’re looking forward to seeing it all come together and watching it grow.

Brad Gregory – CEO of ComparePower
