Electricity Price Trends in Victoria
Texas’s energy market was deregulated by the state legislature in 2002. A deregulated market means that state residents aren’t saddled with a single energy provider. Rather, they are able to find up to 100 retail providers for their homes.
How does deregulation help you? All of these providers are competing for new customers by offering low rates and other incentives. This competition could mean hundreds or thousands of dollars in savings each year.
This is a good time to shop for a new electricity provider. ComparePower makes it possible to sort through hundreds of available plans in minutes.
Average Electricity Rates in Victoria, Texas
This chart is compiled using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA.GOV).
The average price for electricity in Texas in 2017 was 11.4 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
There are fixed-rate plans for Victoria residents on ComparePower with rates as low as $0.11.
How to find the best energy plan in Victoria
What’s the first step toward inexpensive energy? Know your usage!
Your monthly usage rate is a key factor when shopping for cheap electricity in Victoria. Why?
Energy companies often use a standard rate to calculate quotes. This works if you use that exact amount of energy, but you might be surprised by a large bill if your monthly rate is higher than the quote.
ComparePower offers a better way to comparison shop for quotes.
A good way to find an accurate quote is to know your monthly usage pattern for the previous year. This information allows ComparePower to craft customized quotes to your needs. Each quoted rate includes the base price, fees, and taxes that might not be available through other shopping tools.
With your zip code and usage numbers in tow, you can find a plan and complete the switch without leaving ComparePower.
Without your usage, take your best guess
A good guess of your anticipated monthly usage in a new Victoria home is the best alternative to exact figures.
While it works better to have exact numbers, an educated guess is better than selecting the first plan you see.
Use ComparePower to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.
Moving to Victoria: Setting up Electricity
Victoria is known throughout the state as a crossroads to major Texas cities including Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. The city also offers a launch pad to the Gulf of Mexico. Victoria is also home to the Texas Zoo, Theatre Victoria, and the Victoria Ballet.
Important: First-time homeowners or residents in Victoria who haven’t set up electrical plans should search for the previous year’s usage rate.
ComparePower will use your usage rate to crunch the numbers on available electrical plans in Victoria.
If you don’t have access to these numbers, ask the previous owner to help with your research. With a review of previous bills, you can save hundreds of dollars each year in electrical savings.
Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize ComparePower’s “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below and the site’s staff help you evaluate your home’s usage. You can sign up instantly for a plan once you’ve found the right provider.
Switching electricity companies in Victoria
It is a good idea to check for new rates at least 60 days in advance of your current contract’s end so you can anticipate a plan switch. Your current provider may use your contract’s end to raise the price per kWh, so you should take advantage of the deregulated market in Victoria.
Once you find your next energy provider, the switch from your old provider is easy. Your new provider will handle the cancellation process and take care of new paperwork in mere minutes. Your electricity will remain on throughout the process because the wires and poles don’t change hands.
State law allows Victoria residents to cancel their contracts within 14 days of expiration without paying penalties. Savings found on ComparePower can potentially offset any penalties triggered by early cancellation. You can email ComparePower your most recent bill to help you with your options.

You may be eligible to have the deposit waived if you meet one of the following criteria.
A residential customer or applicant may be deemed as having established satisfactory credit if:
- The customer has been a customer of any REP or an electric utility within the two years prior to the request for electric service; is not delinquent in payment of any such electric service account, and during the last 12 consecutive months of service was not late in paying a bill more than once.
- The customer or applicant possesses a satisfactory credit rating obtained through a consumer reporting agency, as defined by the Federal Trade Commission.
- The customer or applicant is 65 years of age or older and the customer is not currently delinquent in payment of any electric service account.

The requirements above are directly from the Texas Public Utility Commission §25.478 – Credit Requirements and Deposits.
Note: For any of the situations above, you must first complete your order an energy plan on ComparePower before you can obtain a waiver for your deposit.
After you’ve placed your order, you will receive an email with instructions as well as contact information for your new energy company.
Important: You must send your waiver information by email, phone, fax or mail to your new energy company (not to ComparePower).
As soon as your energy company receives your documentation, they will let you know that they’ve sent a request for your energy service to begin.
Remember, your energy company will not start your electric service until you satisfy any deposit requirement (you pay or receive a waiver).
If you have any questions on deposit waivers, you can contact us. One of our team members will get back to you as soon as possible.
