How to find the best energy plan in Sandia
#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!
Discovering the amount of energy you will use month-to-month is the best way to find a deal on electricity in Sandia. Why should you care?
The “price per kWh” you see power companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).
Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much energy you consume in a month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you saw when you enrolled.
Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your energy rate.
Calculating your total monthly bill based on anticipate monthly usage, then comparing options by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the lowest rate for your household.
Better yet, if you have an entire year of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the absolute best way to find the right energy rate plan for your home.
ComparePower does all the complicated math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now solved in just seconds.
We put the power in your hands, taking what would amount to hours of investigation, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and guide you step-by-step to the electricity plan that’s best for your home’s usage.
We clarify the details, disclosing all fees and charges, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then help you in enrolling with your selected energy company without leaving our website.
The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before selecting the best energy plan for your home.
If you don’t know your usage, estimate
If you are unable to acquire 12-months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
While not as optimal as having all previous 12-months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly choosing the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.
Use ComparePower to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.

Switching electricity companies in Sandia
Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is essential to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.
Your existing electricity company will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.
Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing energy companies.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your electricity bill.
Switching is easy:
-
-
- You don’t have to contact your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your electricity supply
- It takes just minutes
-
When you make the switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you including canceling service with your previous company.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Sandia is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy companies. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can pick any date up to 14 days early of your current contract’s end date without an “early termination” fee. That’s Texas Law.
If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most companies up to 6o days in advance.
And even if you’re well inside your contract, savings achieved on your monthly bill by switching providers may outweigh the fee to break your existing contract.
For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.
If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest price.
Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.
