Electricity Price Trends in Cypress
In 2002, Texas deregulated the electrical market to expand consumer choice. The bottom line is that Texas residents can choose their electrical provider rather than relying on a single regional provider as in other states.
The state’s deregulation of electricity means that energy companies have to compete for your dollars.
As a result, leading providers are battling to win your business. It’s a buyer’s market and you can use ComparePower to save on your monthly electric bill.
Our comparison tool allows you to see dozens of retail electric plans available in Cypress in moments.
Average Electricity Rates in Cypress, Texas
This chart is compiled using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA.GOV).
The average price for electricity in Texas in 2017 was 11.4 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
There are fixed-rate plans for Cypress residents on ComparePower with rates as low as $0.11.
How to find the best energy plan in Cypress
#1 rule: Know Your Usage!
Knowing how much energy you will use each month is the best way to find power in Cypress. Why does this matter?
Energy companies advertise their rates using a single monthly usage rate rather than customizing quotes based on your usage rate.
Your usage rate might be different than the rate used in a quote, meaning that your actual bill may be higher or lower than the quoted rate.
ComparePower offers a better way to shop energy plans because the site allows you to compare plans based on your actual usage.
All you need to get an accurate quote is your actual monthly usage for the past year.
Once you input your usage, you will see competing plans and rates based on your usage.
Each quote includes fees and charges often left out by other comparison tools. After choosing a plan, you can complete signup without leaving the site.
If you don’t know your usage, estimate
If you are unable to acquire your previous year’s usage or you own a new home, the next best thing is to estimate your monthly usage.
While not perfect, estimating your average monthly usage is better than selecting the first plan you see advertised at a rate that doesn’t match your needs.
Use ComparePower to find the best energy plan for your specific usage.
Moving to Cypress: Setting up Electricity
Cypress has grown from a quiet rural place to a major suburb in short order.
The city had a population of 174,489 in 2017. Anyone living in Cypress can drive a half hour to reach downtown Houston or enjoy the serenity of surrounding communities.
The Houston area offers professional sports like the NFL’s Houston Texans, the NBA’s Houston Rockets, and MLS’s Houston Dynamo.
Corporate headquarters for Shell, Waste Management, Enterprise, and CenterPoint Energy are a short drive from Cyprus.
Important: If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Cypress, you need to get the previous 12 months of energy usage for your new home.
Ask the previous homeowner to provide you with their past 12 months of usage.
This information is easily found in recent billing statements.
It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12 months, but the time and savings will be well worth it.
ComparePower will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.
Note: If you can’t obtain usage history, you can estimate your monthly usage instead. Utilize the “Help Me Choose” tool when you enter your zip code below to receive help evaluating your usage.
Sign up for a plan instantly through ComparePower. The site reminds you when it is time to come back to switch your plan.
Switching electricity companies in Cypress
Choosing a new electric provider is worthwhile. Because market conditions change day to day, it is necessary to shop for a better price every year toward the end of your contract.
Your existing electricity company will typically increase your electricity rate as your contract expires.
Before renewing your contract, shop around for better deals from other providers. Switching your provider can save significant amounts of money on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- No uncomfortable conversation with your energy company
- No visit to your home
- No disruption of power
- No need to spend hours making the switch
When you switch providers, your new company will handle everything for you including canceling your former plan.
You won’t experience a loss of power because the wires and poles delivering power to your home will not change.
State law allows you to cancel your power plan within 14 days of your contract’s end without an early cancellation policy.
It’s possible to set a future start date with most providers within 60 days of the end of your contract.
Even if you have more than 60 days on your contract, it’s possible that switching providers and paying a fee is more cost-effective than staying with an expensive plan.
If you are unsure, email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will get back to you promptly with your best options.
To get started, all you need is your household power usage for the past year to get the best quotes.

Deposit Waivers
You may be eligible to have the deposit waived if you meet one of the following criteria.
A residential customer or applicant may be deemed as having established satisfactory credit if:

- The customer or applicant possesses a satisfactory credit rating obtained through a consumer reporting agency, as defined by the Federal Trade Commission.
- The customer or applicant is 65 years of age or older and the customer is not currently delinquent in payment of any electric service account.

- The customer is medically indigent.
The requirements above are directly from the Texas Public Utility Commission §25.478 – Credit Requirements and Deposits.
Note: For any of the situations above, you must first complete your order an energy plan on ComparePower before you can obtain a waiver for your deposit.
After you’ve placed your order, you will receive an email with instructions as well as contact information for your new energy company.
Important: You must send your waiver information by email, phone, fax or mail to your new energy company (not to ComparePower).
As soon as your energy company receives your documentation, they will let you know that they’ve sent a request for your energy service to begin.
Remember, your energy company will not start your electric service until you satisfy any deposit requirement (you pay or receive a waiver).
If you have any questions on deposit waivers, you can contact us. One of our team members will get back to you as soon as possible.
