Electricity Price Trends in Comstock
Electricity in Comstock, Texas, has been deregulated. As an energy customer, you have a choice when it comes to choosing a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you control and power over your energy bills.
Deregulation of energy in Texas de-monopolized the electricity market for the majority of the state, the city of Comstock included, which introduced massive competition.
As a result, many fantastic power companies compete for your business in Comstock by offering low-rates, making it a great time to shop, switch, and save money on your electricity bill.
As many as 100+ providers compete for your account in Comstock and there are hundreds of plans to choose from.

How to find the best energy plan in Comstock
#1 rule: Determine what your usage is!
Determining how much electricity you will consume monthly is the ideal way to find a deal on power in Comstock. Why should you care?
The “price per kWh” you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (typically 2000 kWh).
Every plan uses a different calculation for how your monthly bill is computed, and your monthly bill will vary depending on how much power you use in each month.
Unless you match the exact advertised usage each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than what you observed when you ordered.
Thankfully, there’s a better way to select your energy provider.
Calculating your expected monthly bill based on estimated monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly cost, is the best way to shop for the best rate for your household.
Better yet, if you have 12 months of usage history for your household, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the ideal way to discover the ideal electricity rate plan for your home.
ComparePower does all this math for you instantly. What could take you hours on a spreadsheet is now done in a few seconds.
We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and calculations across hundreds of offers and assist you step-by-step to the energy plan that’s best for your household’s consumption.
We clarify the fine print, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know precisely where your money is going and what to anticipate on your bill.
We then assist you in signing-up with your chosen energy company without ever having to leave our service.
The bottom line is you must determine your expected or historical usage before ordering the right energy plan for your home.
If you don’t know your usage, estimate
If you recently purchased a home or business, or you cannot obtain 12-months of usage history, you can always estimate the average amount of energy that you will use in any given month.
While not as optimal as having all previous 12-months of usage, estimating your average usage is better than blindly picking the first plan you see advertised by an energy provider at a specific usage that isn’t what you’ll consume.
Use ComparePower to shop for the best electricity plan for your specific usage.
Moving to Comstock: Setting up Electricity
If this is your first time setting up electricity service in Comstock, to get the best rate you need to get the previous 12-months of energy usage for your new home.
Ask the previous home-owner to provide you with their past 12-months of usage.
This information is readily found in recent billing statements.
It may take some effort to acquire usage for the past 12-months, but the time (and savings) will be well worth it.
Once you have historical usage, ComparePower will do the math instantly to help you find the best plan for your home’s usage pattern.
Note: If you are unable to obtain historical usage information, a second option would be to estimate your future usage via utilizing our “Help Me Choose” tool. By simply entering your zip code the tool will be able to assess your home’s projected electricity consumption.
By signing up for a plan through ComparePower you will receive automated reminders when it’s time to renew your existing plan or to possibly switch plans.
Switching electricity companies in Comstock
Switching is good. Market conditions are always changing, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is about to expire.
Your existing energy company will typically raise your energy rate once your term expires. If you do not take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.
Before renewing your contract make sure to check the rates of competing energy companies.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
-
-
- You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
-
When you decide to switch, your new energy company will take care of everything for you including canceling service with your previous company.
There is no loss of power when you switch. Electricity in Comstock is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver electricity to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” penalty. Texas law protects you here.
If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
If you are unsure email us your latest energy bill and one of our team members will respond to you promptly with your best options.
If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly cheapest rate.
Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.
