Electricity Price Trends in Brazoria County
Energy in Brazoria County, Texas, is deregulated. As a resident, you have a choice when it comes to choosing a retail electricity provider (your electricity company), which gives you insight and control over your energy bill.
Deregulation of electricity in the state de-monopolized the energy market for the majority of Texas, the city of Brazoria County included, which introduced lots of competition.
As a result, many excellent power providers compete for your business in Brazoria County by offering low-rates, making it a great time to compare, switch, and save money on your energy bill.
As many as 100+ energy companies compete for your account in Brazoria County and there are hundreds of plans to select from.

How to find the best energy plan in Brazoria County
#1 rule: Usage is key!
Knowing the amount of electricity you will consume in a month is the best way to find a deal on power in Brazoria County. Why should you care?
The rate you see electricity companies advertising is for an exact monthly usage (usually 2000 kWh).
Every plan has a different calculation for how your monthly statement is determined, and your monthly bill will change according to how much power you consume in each month.
Unless you use exactly the advertised amount each month, you will end up paying an effective “price per kWh” different than the one you saw advertised when you signed up.
Fortunately, there’s a better way to choose your electricity provider.
Calculating your total monthly bill based on expected monthly usage, then comparing rates by total monthly bill, is the best way to shop for the best rate for you.
Better yet, if you have an entire year of usage history for your home, you can compare plans by total annual cost. This annualized method takes into account the changes in usage between summer and winter months and is the ideal way to determine the ideal electricity rate plan for your home.
ComparePower does all this math for you instantly. What takes hours on a spreadsheet is now done in just moments.
We put you in the driver’s seat, taking what would amount to hours of research, spreadsheets, and computations across hundreds of plans and navigate you step-by-step to the electricity rate plan that’s best for your home’s consumption.
We clarify the details, disclosing the various charges and fees, so you’ll know exactly where your money is going and what to expect on your bill.
We then assist you in enrolling with your chosen electricity company without leaving our service.
The bottom line is you should know your expected or historical usage before ordering the right electricity plan for your home.
If you don’t know your usage, estimate
If you are unable to acquire 12-months of historical usage, or you’re the owner of a brand new home, the next best thing is to estimate how much energy you will use in an average month.
Although knowing the previous 12-months of usage is optimum, it is far better to estimate the average energy consumption than to select the first electricity provider that you see advertised. After all, you have no idea how much energy you will use at that point.
Use ComparePower to shop for the best energy plan for your specific usage.

Switching electricity companies in Brazoria County
Switching is good. Market conditions are always in flux, so it is important to shop for a lower rate each year when your contract is close to expiring.
Your existing energy provider will normally raise your energy rate once your contract expires. If you fail to take action, you’ll be left on a month-to-month rate that is significantly more than the plan you signed up.
Before renewing your contract make sure to shop the rates of competing energy companies.
Switching can save you hundreds or thousands of dollars each year on your energy bill.
Switching is easy:
- You don’t have to call your current company to cancel (no “break-up call”)
- No one comes to your home
- There is no disruption in your power supply
- It takes just minutes
When you make the switch, your new electricity company will handle everything for you including terminating service with your previous provider.
Your lights stay on when you switch. Electricity in Brazoria County is all delivered by the Oncor Transmission and Distribution Utility.
The wires and poles that deliver power to your home do not change when you switch energy providers. Therefore the reliability of your service is not affected.
You can choose any date within 14 days of your contract expiration date without an “early termination” fee. That’s Texas Law.
If you’re still under contract, find out how many months remain on your contract. You can set a future start date with most providers up to 6o days in advance.
The amount saved each month by switching to a different electricity company may outweigh the one-time fee to get out of your contract early.
For help with this, you can send us your latest energy bill via email, and one of our professional team members will contact you shortly to discuss your best options.
If you’re ready to switch and would like to know how to find the best plan remember that understanding your usage is the best way to find the truly lowest price.
Keep in mind that when you get ready to switch, and you want to know the most efficient way to find the right plan at the best rate, it is essential that you first understand your usage. To accomplish that, you will need to collect the usage history for the past 12 months.
